After care refers to looking after yourself following an event that might raise emotions, trigger emotions or be traumatic. It is expected that a person have in place any support that might be needed following an intense event.
Self-care means taking responsibility for looking after yourself in all ways. Don’t feel pressured to share more than you are comfortable sharing. In a group environment, oversharing is not unusual. Think before you decide to share. Make sure you feel the environment is safe and that you have enough emotional strength to share and to ground yourself once the group is over.
