We have added something new to our Scarlet Circle!
We welcome psychologist and Sex & Intimacy Coach Dr Lori Beth Bisbey as our head Circle Coach for 2019 where we focus exclusively on sex and relationship concerns. If you have something that you struggle to speak about yet need to address, then the Scarlet Circle, private, members-only, women’s coaching sessions may be exactly what you need.
We caught up with Dr Lori to tell us more about herself and what you should expect at the Circle.
Tell us about yourself
I am a psychologist, sex & intimacy coach with over 30 years experience working with individuals, couples and groups on relationship and intimacy issues with the goal of helping them to create lasting exciting relationships. I work with all sexualities, genders, and ethnicities, I am polyamory and kink knowledgeable. I have special expertise in working with gender and sexual diversity and trauma. My mission is to take sex and conversations about sex from the shadows into the light.
How did you start doing this role?
After a severe protracted sexual trauma when I was 19, I developed Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and entered therapy. I decided to become a psychologist as a result. After working with people doing therapy for 15 year, I started coaching.
You are hosting The Scarlet Circle, why did you decide to work with us for these events?
People get a lot from group coaching and Scarlet Ladies provides a great safe space. I enjoy facilitating group work as the participants learn from each other as well as from the facilitator.
What are the key things you will be offering at the Circle?
A safe space with a structure to help women examine and explore sex and intimacy. Specific pointers to other resources that can be helpful. Support in the group setting. Practical tips to help further exploration.
What to expect at these events?
A small group of women who are prepared to listen without judging, willing to contribute to the group, and are prepared to support each other in their journeys. We meet at 6:30 to start the group at 7 pm and run until 9 pm. Once a month, Usually 3 people will bring a topic to each circle. We rotate, so all get an opportunity to speak. We look at action steps after each topic. There will be some time for tips and resources each time.
What would you like women to get out of this event?
Greater clarity about their own sexuality, any issues about sex and intimacy identified, clear next steps, support in their journeys from others who are travelling similar roads and support from those whose journeys are very different. Knowledge of what ‘normal’ really looks like and understanding of their own normal. Knowledge that they are not alone.
Finally, your one advice for women on their sexuality?
Knowing yourself – what turns you on, what turns you off, what relationship style works for you is the foundation to finding and keeping amazing sexual and romantic relationships.
